BODY SOURCES

The Body Source is the geographic location in the body where a specific sound can be found and produced. This specific location or physical gesture in the body of the performer acts as a direct line to unlock a specific Vocal Texture. The Body Source offers a path to the performer to make tangible the emotional quality of a given sound through a repeatable, physical action.

Water

Water

If Air brings along the presence of ultrasounds, Water offers the opposite: “infra-sounds.” Water rumbles and quakes as if excavating, dredging, and gouging dark, primal, telluric, longtime-forgotten sounds of our human experience.
Earth

Earth sounds encompass pitches around your Natural Pitch and come from your pelvis. The Earth texture will help you feel grounded, evoke gravitas, calmness, weight, embodiment, gravidness, ease, and peace.

Envision this sound as the result of a sudden, short, intense release. It should be effortless and much like a “vomit of sound” that spills out of you rather than being forced.

Envision Wood sounds as coming from your torso. The pitch of Wood is, on average, between the fifth and the octave above your Natural Pitch. Described as “strong” because the sound quality relates to the medium-strong intensity or volume in which the sound is being produced.
